Patrons Say Shen Yun Is Amazing, Thought-Provoking, Peaceful

FOLSOM, Calif.—Bobbi Long was one of many patrons to see Shen Yun Performing Arts on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15. The New York-based company brought 5,000 years of history to Folsom, California, with classical Chinese dance, a live orchestra, and colorful visuals.
“You can tell they work out a lot. We love the choreography,” said Ms. Long, who was the director of the ASL center at William Jessup University. “It was visually amazing with the technology that they had of the screen—the back screen. We were amazed.”

Retired U.S. Air Force veteran Steven Novikoff also saw the performance, for a second time.

“My experience for this is the fact that it’s so joyful and so peaceful, and the message it gives is of beauty and love,” said Mr. Novikoff.

Luis Portal, a psychologist and founder of Portal Psychological Services, said he saw harmony expressed in the Shen Yun performance.

“The whole show shows some peace. Gives you some peace of mind, and relaxing, but expresses the human spirit,” said Mr. Portal.

Since its founding in 2006, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the traditional and Divinely inspired culture of China and share it with the world.

“There is so much joy, gratitude, and sacrifice that is made by these people to give us this entertainment with such a strong message of hope,” said Mr. Novikoff.

Rollin Haas, owner of Master Landscape Consulting, appreciated the theme that “good can conquer evil—and will eventually.”

“It was very thought-provoking, and I’m delighted to have been here,” said Mr. Haas.

Ms. Long, being a person of Christian faith, said she enjoyed the Shen Yun experience.

“I loved that they brought in that you can stick up for your faith, even though you might be persecuted, you will be rewarded in heaven. I like that aspect of it as well,” she said.
