School Principal Says Shen Yun 'Left Me With a Wonderful Feeling'

BUENOS AIRES—The Teatro Opera in Argentina transported audiences through 5,000 years of ancient Chinese culture when Shen Yun Performing Arts performed on April 20.

“I liked the effects—that whole thing of transporting us to the magical realm. It left me with a wonderful feeling,” said Dora Consoli, a school principal.

“I thought it was magical, beautiful. The dancers are like acrobats and dancers all in one. Honestly, they’re all spectacular. I loved it,” Ms. Consoli said.

Clara Schwab, former director of camera at a broadcast network, said the performance struck her in a different way.

“When the show started, I almost burst into tears, more from an emotional standpoint than anything,” Ms. Schwab said. “It was awesome. The impact it has right from the start is huge.”

Professional tango dancer Beatriz Acosta said, “It’s something I’d love to see again.”

“I loved it. I was amazed because their level was incredible. It shows us Chinese culture—something not everyone is familiar with,” she said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional culture from China before communism.

From dance pieces ranging from legends to modern day stories of the current persecution happening in China, theatergoers commended the artists’ expressions.

“I was telling my friend, I wish that in Argentina, we could say someday that we have people capable of creating shows of this caliber,” said Mónica Trivi, former philosophy professor at a Catholic university.

“These people were shut away for so many years, and yet they managed to find the beauty in every single thing they did during that time. They were hidden away, in a sense, and now they’ve opened themselves to the world like a rose blooming in spring,” Ms. Trivi said.

“Something beautiful. Truly wonderful,” she added.

Claudio Samassa, founding partner of COS&A Consultants, said, “The energy is transmitted through harmonious movements, accompanied by very ancient music.”

“That combination makes the emotion come through in the dancers’ movements. And that's a profound accomplishment from the performers,” Mr. Samassa said.

“And it creates a kind of vibration in the audience that, for many seeing it for the first time, is quite unexpected,” he said.

The performance is one that many of the audience members said they’d recommend to others.

“They should find a way to come and see it,” said Daniel Lanzilotta, owner of a perfumery.

“Do whatever it takes to experience this performance, because it imparts a message not just for the culture it represents, but for the broader culture of the world’s society,” Mr. Lanzilotta said.
