Shen Yun Performing Arts has performed more than a dozen shows in Paris, France, since the end of April. The New York-based company was founded in 2006 with a mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. Through classical Chinese dance, live music, and vivid storytelling, Shen Yun brings ancient civilization to life on stage. Audience members described the performance as deeply moving and visually stunning, with many expressing appreciation for the cultural depth and artistic excellence on display.

“Artistically, it's really, I would say sublime. I would say sublime,” said Fabrice Millerioux, a customer manager at Air France. “Sometimes I would get a little tear in my eye because of its beauty. It's something you don't see every day, so it's quite moving.”

“I was very pleasantly surprised to find excellent portrayals of ancient China, on the one hand, and the technical mastery in the production. I wasn't expecting that at all. So it's a show I would gladly recommend to those around me,” said Jean-Claude Ponroy, a former government relations manager.

“It's exceptional. There’s a level of precision that, for me personally, is mind-blowing. And it’s everywhere, among the musicians, the dancers, and especially the soprano. It's of very high quality,” said François-Xavier Dupont, the deputy mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine.

“I'm absolutely impressed about it. I’ve seen it a few years ago with my daughter in Germany. And now it is a birthday gift to my wife. And we came to Paris to see it again. And it's absolutely stunning,” said Peter Petry, a joiner-carpenter master.

Ancient Chinese civilization regarded its culture and values as gifts from the divine. However, since coming to power in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party has sought to dismantle this heritage and suppress society’s long-standing spiritual traditions.

“We live in a world where we need traditions and values to guide us back to the right path. Things are going off in all directions these days. And this kind of performance, I believe, brings back elements we’re no longer used to talking about,” said Philippe Charté, a company director.

“I'm a practicing Christian, so I felt a resonance with that call to the divine,” said Ponroy. “It's an extremely important message in the face of violence, and artistic expressions that are often filled with violence.”

“You could feel it in the background, in the set design, there was a divine presence. You could sense there was a source, and that source is indeed the cultural roots of China. Absolutely,” said Dupont.

“It’s a beautiful show, very well presented, colorful, and I’m very happy I attended,” said Bernard Hache, a municipal councillor. “I fully intend to tell my friends about it, that it was extremely graceful, very colorful, and well worth seeing.”

Shen Yun will continue to perform in Paris, France, until May 11.
