Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully closed the curtain at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California, on April 15. Audience members were deeply touched by the performance and felt as if they were in a heavenly realm.

“I'm so thrilled to be here tonight, and it's a true education and an excitement and an enlightenment. That's what it is, enlightening,” said Mila Cangelosi-Brestyanszky, a musical producer and director. “Because of the colors, the dancers, the talent, I've never seen such talent anywhere in the world. And I have seen many productions in my lifetime. But this production is absolutely out of this world. The way the choreography is arranged, it makes me want to get out of my seat and fly, fly along with them. Just beautiful.”

“It was really perfect. For me as an artist, the combination of colors, it was like opening a door to another world for me,” said Sarvenaz Sharifi, an architect.

“It's got a visual element to it beyond just the stage performance, that there's cinematography and choreographing that's going on in that dimension as well. And it kind of gives that feeling of something beyond this world that we're all sitting in a theater. It's more ethereal, and so it kind of helps to embellish on the fables,” said George Shohet, a lawyer.

Since the communist party took power in China in 1949, the regime has sought to break Chinese society’s belief in the divine. Now, Shen Yun travels the world with a mission: to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values. Audience members highlighted the themes and values present in the performance.

“Each story has its own message, they have a moral message. And it's very good that the narration of the show, they come and they say about these moral messages. And each episode has its moral message, and they are very meaningful,” said Sarvenaz Sharifi. “How culture is important in our daily life and in modern life. And in the modern era, we shouldn't forget our cultures. The cultures are the soul and spirit of the society, in every society. This is what I get from the show.”

George Shoet said: “It's a loss to the Chinese people and the government. I hope as time goes by that gets changed, because there's no reason to fear this. It's really something to treasure in the country of China. It ought to be applauded, and revered.”

“It kind of hits you with all this beauty and all this color and all this love, it's very positive. It's a very good, positive feeling you walk out of there all excited,” said Jim Righeimer, former mayor of Costa Mesa. “You need to get to the show. Just get online, Shen Yun, look it up and find out when it's gonna be in town, and make sure you get there.”

Shen Yun will be performing at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, California, on April 24 and 25.
