On April 5, Shen Yun Performing Arts enchanted theater goers in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Boch Center Wang Theatre. The performance presented a display of heavenly scenes, traditional Chinese dance, and music. Audience members had high praise for Shen Yun’s performers and its live orchestra.

“I thought it was amazing. It was so refreshingly different and just masterfully done. The magnitude of the visual as well as the beautiful instrumentals that I thoroughly appreciate. The Chinese instruments were amazing to hear. Was a delight,” said Robert Taylor, a music teacher. “The virtuosity of the musicians just made it so beautiful. You never sensed any sort of interruption or anything like that. It all just flowed so well, and I salute the virtuosity and that commitment of the musicians.”

“I love the way that they work in the kind of cultural stories, fables, past of China, together with the performing dance part of it. It's great because it tells a story without speaking,” said Christopher Sullivan, an attorney.

Shen Yun is based in New York and tours around the globe with a mission: to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values from before communism. The company cannot perform in China because the performance shines a light on the brutal persecution of faith by the Chinese Communist Party.

“You get to see it and you feel it, but it also gives you an insight into it, and it makes you think about what's actually going on because it's very easy for us here. We have freedom to do whatever we like, say what we want, pretty much do what we want within the law. So we're very lucky, and it's not every day you think about other countries that don't have those freedoms,” said Sinead Brooks, a business owner.

“Communism has tried to kill the soul and crush so many countries. And the artistic effort to expose that may be what ends up actually working for people to see the truth,” said Elizabeth Robar, an organization CEO.

Malign actors linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have been making fake bomb threats to stop the New York-based dance company’s performances. Email-based threats have claimed that bombs will detonate if the performances proceed. The CCP has tried to disrupt Shen Yun since its founding in 2006.
“The Communist Party, the more they try to shut down the voice and these acts, the more curiosity. They raise awareness for other people. ‘Why? Why do they do that?’ It makes more people concerned and aware, and they actually advertise more for Shen Yun,” said Chau Kelley, a real estate agent. “They should not be able to do that on American soil. This is America, and these Shen Yun performers, they are Americans here too. They need to be protected. And somebody got to stop them.”
Shen Yun will be performing at the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 15 and 16.
