On April 27, Shen Yun Performing Arts dazzled audience members at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, Illinois. The performance took them on a journey through China’s rich heritage and showcased its ancient wisdom. Theatergoers marveled at the beauty of China before communism.

“It was soothing to the heart, it really was. I enjoyed every minute of it,” said Diane Mazzone, a former business owner.

“It's a gorgeous show, beautiful show. The dancing and everything is just so amazing. The backdrop, it was so gorgeous. You could actually see the people stepping down and into the photography, the movie. Everything was just so beautiful and amazing,” she said.

“That really impressed me. The transition from the stage to the screen, I've never seen that before. So that was very impressive,” said Mark McDonnell, a former company president.

“I would say that they're extraordinary, and they look very happy dancing. And I'm sure that they feel enriched by just what they do. It's a very wonderful talent that they have,” Ms. Mazzone said.

Shen Yun draws its inspiration from five millennia of traditional Chinese civilization. Ancient Chinese people believed their culture and values were gifts from the divine. But in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party took power in China and sought to eradicate its rich traditions.

“I think there's a message of peace behind the show. I think that it's a message that we should all get along,” Ms. Mazzone said.

“This is quite a refreshing portrayal of the Chinese in their past history. They obviously have a long history, much more than obviously we have. And it's very impressive. It's very good,” said Alexis Rohan, a former forensic document examiner.

“Just beautiful, just beautiful. It's a work of art. I've never seen anything like it. It's gorgeous. I've seen ballets, I've seen other things that have dancing in them. This was just more beautiful than I even expected,” Ms. Mazzone said.

Shen Yun will perform at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on May 6 and 7.
