Shen Yun Performing Arts was met with a full house for their last performance in Gwacheon, South Korea, on May 10. The New York-based company is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company with a mission to rekindle traditional Chinese culture from before communism through classical dance, music and an immersive backdrop.
Shen Yun is truly magnificent, a highly accomplished epic poem, an epic drama,” said Lee Young-Bum, an actor. “The various staging, especially the use of 3D, and the harmonization of the stage and the backdrop, I thought it was so perfect. I was very pleased because I felt like I had seen a performance that was so complete as a whole theater piece.”

“I think it's really gorgeous, the colors are so pretty, and the things that were in 3D looked so realistic. And the music is traditional Chinese music,” said Choi Soo-Jin, a congresswoman.

“I saw it today, and the history, the artistry, the creativity, and the caliber of the performers and the staff is just outstanding and brilliant,” said Park Cheol-Yeon, a former congressman.

“It was fantastic to go from the virtual world to the real world,” said Lee Hyun-Ki, a university adjunct professor. “I was thinking that this is one of those things that you see once or twice in your lifetime.”

Shen Yun draws its inspiration from five millennia of traditional Chinese civilization. Ancient Chinese people believed their culture and values to be gifts from the Divine. Theatergoers expressed their appreciation for Shen Yun’s efforts.

“I look at the art and there's a lot of free expression. It's colorful. So I think that those are some of the beautiful shapes of China that are authentic, that are outside of the Communist Party and outside of those ideas,” said Soo-Jin.

“I was particularly impressed by the performance that was made with the theme that utilized tradition, and it resonated with everyone,” said Young-Bum.

“Today I really enjoyed the traditional Chinese culture and classical dances, the dances that are characteristic of each region. It was fantastic, the movements were like floating on clouds,” said Lee Young-Hee, a writer. “Watching this show today was very soul cleansing.”

Shen Yun has been traveling around the world since 2006, and has now grown to eight companies. Its artists bring an all new program every season for the audience to enjoy.
