New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts took the stage in Keelung, Taiwan, on March 22 and 23. With the mission of reviving traditional Chinese culture, Shen Yun impressed the audience with world-class classical Chinese dance and live orchestral music.

“I felt blown away the first time I saw the performance,” said Wu Yu-Sheng, CEO of an education company. “Through an infusion of ancient and contemporary cultures, we saw Shen Yun’s virtuosity and competence.”

“When the curtain rose, the feeling of a wonderland was truly immersive. I knew (the performance demonstrates) 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture, and we indeed have a very deep cultural heritage,” said Mr. Wu’s wife Li Hsiu-Chih.

“The performance was superb, and the dancers were very well trained. You could see the dedication they put into the dancing, the culture, and the artistic training, and that made a fantastic performance,” said Lin Shin-Hsiung, the police chief of the city of Keelung.

“The colors, the dancers’ styling, and costumes. Wow, it really was gorgeous and made for a great experience,” said Mr. Wu.

“The laying out of the scenes, the smooth flow of the storytelling, and the sound. The whole show contains a lot of details, really full of details,” said Chang Shih-Ting, director of a medical technology company.

“The symphony was majestic, and the presentation and coordination of the instruments were excellent. It was a very strong feeling listening to it live,” said Mr. Lin.

Audience members echoed the values conveyed through the performance, saying they offer guidance in life.

“[The lyrics] on screen actually have a very deep revelation for us present-day people. I think while enjoying the show, we can think deeply about the future of our lives. It guides us toward a spiritually healthier life,” said Mr. Wu.

“I have had some frustrations in my life, buried in my heart, but because I saw such a team today, such a performance, and the dedication of everyone, I think I have to be more broad-minded in life,” said Li Li-chin, owner of a sportswear company.

Shen Yun is spreading the importance of freedom. This is certainly where we should strive for in our entire lives. It also elaborates on the goodness of human nature, which should be well-guarded. This is a universal value that our free and democratic countries should pursue,” said Mr. Lin.

“It’s rare to find a show that interprets Eastern culture so precisely and beautifully, so I found it a wonderful feast for both the eyes and the ears,” said Mr. Chang.

Shen Yun is simultaneously touring countries in Asia, North America, Europe, and Latin America until mid-year.
