A popular snack brand is pulling several varieties of its dark chocolate almond bites from store shelves across the country. The recall comes after a customer found what appeared to be peanut butter products inside packaging that made no mention of peanuts, a hidden ingredient can trigger a deadly allergic reaction.
Bazzini, LLC, an Allentown, Pennsylvania-based co-manufacturer for SkinnyDipped®, announced a voluntary recall on May 27 of a limited number of cases of SkinnyDipped® Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond Bites, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (
FDA). The recall was issued after the customer reported finding peanut butter-containing products tucked inside individual wrappers within a 3.17-ounce, 10-count package—a product that is not supposed to contain peanuts or peanut butter in any form.
The recalled snacks were distributed to retailers nationwide and were also handed out as complimentary samples. The affected items span multiple package sizes and formats, including 4-count, 6-count, 10-count, 20-count, 24-count and 50-count packages, as well as a 32-count mixed shipper featuring both Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond Bites and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. Affected products carry best-by dates ranging from Dec. 20, 2026 through Dec. 29, 2026.
Peanut allergy is one of the most common causes of anaphylaxis—a severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction—among food-related triggers, according to the
Mayo Clinic. Reactions can set in within minutes and may include hives, throat tightening, difficulty breathing, a sudden drop in blood pressure and loss of consciousness. Treatment requires immediate use of an epinephrine injector, such as an EpiPen, and emergency medical care.
Unlike some food allergies that fade over time, peanut allergy can persist into adulthood and even return in people who appeared to have outgrown it. Children are especially vulnerable, particularly those with eczema or egg allergies, who face a higher risk.
As of the time of the announcement, no allergic reactions or illnesses linked to the recalled products had been reported.
The recall is limited strictly to the lot codes and best-by dates identified in the notice. No other SkinnyDipped® products are affected.
Customers who have any of the recalled snacks are instructed not to eat them and to return them to where they were purchased for a full refund. Those with questions or concerns can reach SkinnyDipped directly by phone at 1-866-957-9907 or by email at
[email protected].
On the East Coast, a separate company initiated a voluntary recall the same day over undeclared milk, food coloring, and pecans and pistachios, posing additional risks for consumers with allergens. De Dios’s Ice Pops II LLC
announced its own recall for its popsicle products sold in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, according to an FDA notice published the same day. No illnesses have been reported to date, and customers with questions can call the company at (973)279-7900.
