China’s COVID-19 lockdown measures are hitting areas beyond Xinjiang and Tibet, which are largely home to ethnic minorities.

The strict rules are also impacting China’s Han ethnic group, which makes up more than 90 percent of today’s Chinese people.

Similar reports from the country have been repeating themselves for over two years. In areas where positive COVID-19 cases have been detected, the entrances to some residential buildings are welded shut, or covered with boards and nailed closed. Without the key, no one inside can leave the compound.
