Texas is known as not only the energy capital of the United States, but also the energy capital of the world. It’s the only U.S. state operating its own self-sufficient energy grid, which produces more than 21 percent of all U.S. energy.

So, when millions of Texans suddenly lost power this February, and extremely cold Texas temperatures caused destruction, even death, what happened to the energy pride of Texas? We went there to find out.

And while Texans have seen more natural disasters than just this February freak freeze, we learned how Texans face such challenges. What we found was not only surprising, but also inspiring.
