A U.S. navy aircraft transited the Taiwan strait in international airspace on Wednesday, ahead of President Donald Trump's meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The U.S. 7th fleet says the move demonstrates America's commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The Taiwan strait separates Taiwan from mainland China.

The move comes amid growing concerns that U.S.–Israel strikes could deplete munitions the United States might need in the event of a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
