In his floor speech on Sept. 13 in favor of H.R. 1435, a bill prohibiting the EPA from issuing waivers that would ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.) criticized the electric vehicle mandates and forest management regulations imposed by the state of California and Gov. Gavin Newsom. “We’re putting ourselves into the stone age so we can go live in caves and eat insects that these guys are prescribing for us,” Mr. LaMalfa said. The bill passed the House 222–190 on Sept. 14.
