Authorities are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after four people, including two adults and two children, were found dead inside a Los Angeles home on Wednesday night, officials said.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) told NTD via email on Thursday that officers responded around 7:50 p.m. to a residence on the 16200 block of Londelius Street in the North Hills neighborhood after receiving a report of a shooting.

Once inside the San Fernando Valley home, officers discovered four people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

All four people were pronounced dead at the scene. They were later identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office as 31-year-old Khajag Basmajian; a woman in her 30s, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin; a 2-year-old boy; and a 6-day-old baby girl.

A cause of death was not listed in any of the medical examiner's online records, pending further investigation.

The relationship of the deceased woman to the victims was also not immediately provided. However, officials told the Los Angeles Times she was the children's mother, adding that a preliminary investigation indicated she had shot the three victims before dying by suicide.

A neighbor, Karen Banuelos, told the outlet that she heard a commotion when first responders arrived to the residence but did not hear the initial gunshots.

"This is so devastating for everyone. Postpartum is real," Banuelos said. "But what possesses you to do that? There are just no words."

Speaking with ABC 7 Eyewitness News on Wednesday night, another local resident, Undreal Turner, said the entire incident was just shocking.

"Something that drastic and devastating in the neighborhood. It's sad. Four people lost their lives today," Turner said. "We really need to hone in on our moms, and even dads, just to make sure, in the neighborhood, people that you know, that they're okay. Do they need any help? Do they need any assistance? Do they need any support?"

Authorities did not share any details about what may have led up to the killings or a possible motive in the case.

The LAPD spokesperson told NTD that the department's Robbery Homicide Division was on scene and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

ABC also reported that members of the mayor's Crisis Response Team visited the North Hills residence. According to the City of Los Angeles's website, the group of trained volunteers provides emotional support to survivors impacted by personal tragedies, including the sudden and unexpected deaths of loved ones.
