Two sisters were killed in a hammock accident after a brick pillar the hammock was tied to collapsed on them, according to multiple reports.

The girls, 14-year-old Scout and 12-year-old Chasey Scaravilli, were at their home in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, when the accident happened on Sunday, according to WJW Fox 8. Police said that one side of the hammock was tied to a tree and the other side was tied to brick column, which collapsed while the girls were on the hammock.

Cleveland Heights Police and Fire Department received reports of two girls trapped under bricks and authorities were dispatched to their home on Berkshire Road around 7:45 p.m.

After authorities removed the bricks, the girls were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they later died of their injuries.

According to WOIO, the accident is being investigated by authorities.

Scout and Chasey both attended Hathaway Brown School and had just finished eighth and sixth grade, respectively, and would have started ninth grade and seventh grade in the coming fall, a spokesperson for the school told the outlet.

Head of the Hathaway Brown School Fran Bisselle offered her condolences to the sisters in a statement on the school’s website, writing, “The entire [Hathaway Brown] community is saddened by the loss of the Scaravilli sisters; they will be greatly missed by so many friends, classmates, and teachers. Our thoughts and prayers are dedicated to their family.”

The school will also be offering grief counseling for students, parents, and faculty members at the school, the statement said.

The school invited students, their families, and school faculty members to a gathering at the campus to honor the two sisters on Monday, according to the statement.

The statement added that the Scaravilli family had started a scholarship named after the Scout and Chasey.

“Scout and Chasey’s warm hearts and vibrant spirits will be cherished by family and friends. The Scaravilli family has established the Scout and Chasey Scaravilli Endowed Scholarship Fund as a lasting tribute and continuation of the girls’ deep appreciation of sisterhood,” the statement read.
