2020 New Year Celebrations Around the World

People around the globe bid farewell to 2019 and welcomed in the first year of the new decade.

New Zealand was one of the earliest countries to greet the New Year. In Auckland, half a ton of fireworks were set off from the Sky Tower above the city center.

In Australia, more than a million people gathered at the Sydney Harbor to see fireworks.

Thousands of South Koreans filled the cold streets of Seoul for a bell-tolling ceremony. The bell is rung annually 33 times by celebrities and other prominent people.

Crowds gathered in Tokyo’s Shibuya City to count in 2020. Tokyo will also host the 2020 Olympics, a highly anticipated event for the capital and the entire nation.

In Bangkok, Thailand, the public welcomed 2020 with a spectacular fireworks display over the Chao Phraya river.
