Federal safety regulators on Thursday announced the recall of roughly 254,000 packages of popular children's pool toys over concerns that dive sticks included in the sets could seriously injure young swimmers. A separate recall the same day targeted pool drain covers that may pose a drowning and entrapment risk.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued both recalls on June 11, flagging products that were widely available through major online retailers including Amazon, Temu, Shein, Wayfair and Target.

At the center of the larger recall are Sloosh dive sticks—hard plastic, cylinder-shaped toys roughly 7 inches long and about an inch in diameter—sold as part of a 30-piece Sloosh water toys kit under model number 40041.

The problem is that the dive sticks exceed federal compression limits, putting them in violation of a longstanding federal ban on dive sticks. When children play in shallow water, they can fall or land on one of the rigid sticks and become impaled. Attempts to retrieve the sticks from underwater can also result in injuries to the eyes or face.

The toys were sold in colorful boxed kits through Amazon.com, Temu.com, Wayfair.com, Plus.Target.com and SHEIN.com between February 2019 and October 2025, priced between $17 and $22. The importer, Joyin US Corp. of Chandler, Arizona, manufactured the products in China.

No injuries have been reported, but the agency is urging parents to act immediately. Consumers should stop using the dive sticks right away, take them from children, and throw them away. To receive a free set of redesigned, compliant replacement sticks, customers are asked to photograph the disposed toys in a trash can and email the image to Joyin at [email protected].

Only the dive sticks carrying model number 40041 and sold before Oct. 23, 2025, are subject to the recall. The rest of the items in the Sloosh water toys package may continue to be used. Consumers with questions can call Joyin toll-free at 800-781-3067 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. MT, Monday through Friday, or visit joyin.com and click "Recall" at the bottom of the page.

In a separate but related recall issued the same day, the CPSC announced the recall of approximately 595 Houoto 642-2150V Pool Drain Covers sold through Amazon, citing violations of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act—a federal law enacted specifically to prevent children from becoming trapped in pool and spa drains.

The 7-5/8-inch white ABS plastic drain covers lack required product markings, are missing information about service life, and do not include installation and maintenance instructions, leaving them out of compliance with mandatory federal safety standards. Such deficiencies can create entrapment and drowning hazards, particularly for children.

The drain covers were sold on Amazon.com from January through May 2026 for about $18. They were manufactured in China by Foshan Nanhai District Haichen Tengfei Hardware Factory and retailed through Tingting Specialty Store, doing business as Prosperity goes straight up, also of China.

No injuries have been reported. Pool owners and operators are urged to stop using pools fitted with the recalled covers immediately. To receive a refund, consumers must remove the drain cover, render it unusable, write "Recalled" on it in permanent marker and email a photo to [email protected].
