Four people were found dead inside a home in San Francisco’s Ingleside district on the afternoon of  Oct. 8, in what is being called a “suspicious” incident, according to police.

Officers responded around 1:23 p.m. to the 900 block of Monterey Boulevard for a well-being check and discovered four unresponsive individuals inside the residence, according to a San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) statement.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting a parallel investigation to determine the cause and manner of death, police said.

The SFPD Homicide Detail has taken over the case, which is being treated as an isolated incident. Authorities said there is “no general threat to the public.”

Neighborhood in Shock

“This is a very rare occurrence in this neighborhood,” SFPD spokesperson Officer Robert Rueca told KTVU-TV. “This area rarely sees any type of activity close to this.”
The four victims are believed to be family members who lived in the home. Neighbors told ABC 7 San Francisco that the family included two young girls, one of whom was around 12 or 13 years old.
In a televised interview, neighbors expressed their disbelief over what had occurred.

A younger neighbor said he was just coming home from school when his mom told him, and he said his “heart dropped.”

One neighbor, Belinda Hanart, said that the family had moved into the area about a year ago and would regularly decorate their house for the holidays.

“We didn’t hear anything or notice something unusual. They were a quiet family,” she said.

Hanart said she is in shock over the tragedy and is thinking of the family as they try to process what happened to their neighbors.

Hanart’s home is located beside the residence where police found the bodies, not far from City College of San Francisco.

Hanart said her bedroom faces the neighboring home and that she and her family, who have two dogs, never heard any noise coming from the residence. Hanart described them as a typical family with a normal daily routine.

Police were seen searching the home and the neighborhood for evidence on Oct. 8, according to local reports.

As of the morning of Oct. 9, authorities had not released the names or ages of the deceased. The cause of death remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, beginning the message with “SFPD,” according to police.
