Reality television personality Jenny Slatten, best known for her appearance on the TLC series “90 Day Fiancé,” revealed she has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“We’re doing what we can,” Slatten told the outlet on May 19.
Slatten first noticed changes to her health in December 2024, when she choked while drinking water and had difficulty swallowing on multiple occasions. Over time, she also developed migraines and noticed slowing in her speech.
“That’s when we knew something was wrong,” she told People.
In December 2025, Slatten traveled from India, where she resides with her husband, to New York City for a “90 Day Fiancé” holiday party. An interview from the event prompted concern from loved ones and even fans, who pointed to ALS.
“I was thinking that maybe Jenny didn’t even sleep,” Singh recalled. “And then I find out that these symptoms she was having—this is what it looks like.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects the nervous system in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control and movement.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the motor neurons will gradually deteriorate and then die. There is no cure for ALS, and patients usually have a life expectancy of three to five years after initial diagnosis.
Before confirming her diagnosis, the couple sought out additional medical opinions after believing her symptoms could be related to a minor neurological issue. Notably, Slatten’s father died from ALS over a decade ago.
“We cried and held each other,” Slatten said upon learning of her diagnosis.
Despite the news, the couple maintain an optimistic outlook and found comfort in assessments from doctors who said Slatten’s ALS progression is slow.
“I’m still able to walk around and Sumit is still allowed to smile,” Slatten said on May 20 under a photo of her and Singh via Instagram stories.
Under close monitoring from neurological specialists, the couple is actively researching treatment options, therapies, and clinical trials that could help manage symptoms or improve Slatten’s quality of life.
“Right now we’re just looking and searching,” Slatten told People. “Maybe somebody will come forward with something.”
“I don’t want to be treated any different,” she added. “Let’s just live our life as we have been while we can.”
“Honestly, I never felt this much love, or I can love anyone this much,” Singh says of their relationship. “I used to live for myself, but from [the] last so many years, I feel like doing [things] for someone who you love gives you happiness.”
“I think that’s what love is,” he continued. “That’s why we do things for each other, and that’s what makes each other happy.”
