An American Airlines employee lost their life in an accident on the tarmac at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Monday, marking the second incident involving an airline worker in recent weeks.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), authorities responded to an emergency call at 9:38 a.m. regarding an employee struck by a vehicle on the airport tarmac. First responders pronounced the worker dead at the scene.
American Airlines told NTD News in an email statement: "We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time."
Charlotte Douglas International Airport officials also conveyed their sympathies. In a statement given to media outlets, the airport said, "Our deepest condolences go out to the employee's family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. The airport is working closely with airline and first responder partners in the ongoing investigation and is providing support as needed."
The name of the person killed has not yet been publicly released.
Airport officials did not immediately return a request for comment made by NTD News.
The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) said that Levno had been with the company since 1989, beginning her career with America West. The union commemorated her, noting that her "love for her horses, friends, and family will always be remembered" by those who knew her.
According to Denver Police, 24-year-old Elijah Caudill was arrested in connection with four stabbings, including the fatal attack on Levno. The incidents occurred on Jan. 11 and 12 along 16th Street in downtown Denver, resulting in two deaths and two injuries.
