As stated by a news release issued by the Aurora Police Department, authorities received a call at around 10:55 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, informing the police that people were injured during a shooting that took place on the 17100 block of East Adriatic Place. When officers arrived on the scene, they found three injured individuals suffering from gunshot wounds in one of the apartments inside the complex.
The injured individuals were taken to the local hospital, according to the news release.
Police also found out that there were two additional injured individuals as a result of the shooting. They left the scene of the crime before the police arrived. They attended a medical facility and were subsequently transported to an area hospital by ambulance, according to the news release.
As indicated by the news release, the three injured individuals found at the apartment were two females and one male. All three were juveniles. As for the two injured individuals who left before the police got to the scene, they were both adult males. All five individuals are expected to survive their injuries.
According to the news release, the suspect in the shooting was described as a black male, wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt. Police aren’t able to confirm if there are any other suspects at the moment, the news release stated.
“[U]ntil we are able to interview witnesses and victims, we are unable to confirm [whether there are additional suspects],” the release stated.
The investigation into this case is still ongoing, according to the news release.
“We understand that an incident like this can be unnerving to those who live in the area. Our top priority right now is to ensure the safety of our residents and to identify the ones responsible for this and quickly arrest them. We will also be increasing police patrols in the area, and Officers from the District 3 Police Area Representative Unit (PAR) will be spending their day in the neighborhood,” the news release stated.
Vanessa Wilson, the Interim Chief, stated, according to the news release, that “this investigation is a top priority for our agency. We have all of our resources working around the clock right now, conducting interviews and collecting evidence. We need the community to come together with us to stop this senseless violence to protect our youth. We continue to ask anyone with information to please call us with any information they may have.”
No one has been arrested concerning the crime as yet, according to the news release. Police advise that should anyone have any information regarding the case, that person should contact authorities.
