The late television legend Bob Barker, known for his iconic role as the host of “The Price Is Right,” battled Alzheimer’s disease in the years leading up to his death, according to his recently obtained death certificate.

TMZ first reported Tuesday that Mr. Barker’s death certificate confirmed his struggle with Alzheimer’s, a revelation that had never been publicly addressed by the television personality.

The death certificate also listed hypertension, hypothyroidism, and hyperlipidemia as factors contributing to his death, according to ET Online and ABC7.

Originally, his death was cited as being due to natural causes.

Mr. Barker’s publicist, Roger Neal, told NBC that there “will be no funeral or memorial service per his wishes” and that he will be buried next to his wife at Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles.

Mr. Barker passed away at the age of 99 at his Hollywood Hills home on Aug. 26, leaving behind a legacy that spanned decades.

The death certificate, obtained exclusively by TMZ, reportedly stated that Mr. Barker had been dealing with Alzheimer’s for “years,” although the exact duration of his battle remains undisclosed.

Mr. Barker, an advocate for animal rights and a decades-long vegetarian, had not previously made any public announcements regarding his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. However, in 2013, he participated in a public service announcement (PSA) for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), where he advocated for a meat-free diet as a potential means to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

In the PSA, Mr. Barker shared his commitment to a vegetarian lifestyle and the potential health benefits it could offer, including the prevention of Alzheimer’s. While he didn’t explicitly mention his own diagnosis in the PSA, his involvement highlighted his dedication to the cause.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects memory and cognitive function, and it remains a significant public health concern worldwide.

Robert William Barker, Mr. Barker’s full name, was born in Darrington, Washington, on Dec. 12, 1923. He spent his childhood on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission.

He married Dorothy Jo Gideon, his high school sweetheart, and sadly, Ms. Barker passed away in 1981 after a 37-year-long marriage. The couple did not have any children.
