PORTLAND, Oregon—Police in southern Oregon have found a body at the home of a missing man who was an original member of Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club.”

The Oregonian reported recently that 76-year-old Dennis Day was reported missing on July 15 last year by his husband. The same-sex couple got married in 2011.

Police from Phoenix, Oregon, asked death investigators from Medford to examine a body that they found at Day's home months later on Thursday, April 4, after Day's family complained about what they saw as “poorly handled” investigation.

“We had no idea anything was happening, and six months into it, we figured it out," Day's sister, Nelda Adkins, told Dateline in February. "We should have been notified.”
Authorities have not identified the remains or released additional details, the report stated.

Disney Actor

Day was born in 1942. When he was 10, he was among the first group of children hired for the Disney show.

He starred as one of the original Mickey Mouse Club Mouseketeers when he was just 12-years-old.

Additional Information on Day's Disappearance

Adkins told Dateline that they only found out that her brother had been missing after one of her relatives heard the news in a television report.

"He saw it on the news broadcast and called us immediately," Adkins said. "I called Phoenix Police Department the very next day and we've been working on it ever since. The whole family got in on it."

Day's husband, Ernie Caswell, was the one to report Day missing in July 2018 when Day failed to visit him at hospital after a fall.

Adkins said that police hadn't contacted her family because "they didn't have any record of family" besides Caswell, who suffers from dementia-related memory problems. Caswell now lives in an assisted living facility.

Police said Day was last seen walking down his driveway in July, saying he was leaving for a few days to visit friends, reported KOBI-TV.

Day's car also went missing. It was later found along the coast with two people inside who are unfamiliar with Day.

The car was impounded by Oregon State Police and later searched. There was no sign of foul play, Lt. Price of the Phoenix Police Department told USA Today.

A roommate who had been living with Day temporarily told the authorities that he didn't know Day's whereabouts. Price said the roommate had Day's debit card and that Day's bank account had remained untouched.

"It's a nightmare of a case," Price said. "He just up and left, and we have no idea what direction he went or if he left voluntarily or not."

Adkins said the frustration is high for Day's family and friends, reported USA Today. Adkins last saw her brother in the summer of 2017 when she paid him a visit.

"He was alert, he was healthy, he was fine," she said. "(Police) are trying to portray him as a reclusive, demented person, but in one year's time you can't become that way."
