A British Airways flight encountered a mechanical issue during its departure from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Monday evening, though the flight continued safely to its destination across the Atlantic.

Flight BA274, an Airbus A350-1000, lost one of its main landing gear tires as it lifted off from the runway around 8:45 p.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The tire detached from the plane’s right rear landing gear and fell onto the airfield below. The incident was captured on video, which shows sparks erupting from the landing gear as the plane ascended.

Despite the unexpected loss of one wheel, the flight maintained its trajectory toward London's Heathrow Airport, where it touched down without incident.

The A350-1000 model carries redundant landing gear systems—each of the two main landing gear units has six wheels, for a total of 12 main wheels, in addition to the two nose gear wheels.

In a statement to NTD News, the FAA confirmed it will investigate the cause of the mechanical error.

The incident was documented by Flightradar24, an aviation tracking service, which captured the moment the wheel separated from the plane via its automated camera system at Las Vegas airport.

The tire was recovered from the runway, and airport crews inspected the runway for any foreign object debris that could pose a hazard to upcoming flights.

An airport spokesperson told NTD News on Thursday that no injuries occurred and no damage was sustained to airport infrastructure.

"Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is aware of an incident involving a British Airways aircraft that departed LAS the night of January 26, 2026, and continued on to London, where it landed safely without further incident," the airport statement explained.

An airline spokesperson told NTD News that the airline is committed to safety and adhering to their protocols.

"Safety and security underpins everything we do and we're supporting the authorities with their investigations," British Airways stated Thursday.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been formally notified of the incident and will lead the technical investigation. The FAA similarly indicated it will conduct its own investigation into the incident.
