Comcast has agreed to pay $117.5 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit over a 2023 cybersecurity breach that exposed the personal information of millions of Xfinity customers, and the claims process is now open.
What Can Eligible Customers Receive?
The $117.5 million fund is designed to cover several types of relief. Eligible customers can file a claim for reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses, compensation for lost time, or an alternative cash payment. In addition, all settlement class members have already been issued an enrollment code for Identity Defense Services and Restoration Services—an automatic benefit that can be activated once the settlement is finalized.Other Options for Those Who Don't Want to Participate
Customers who do not wish to be bound by the settlement terms have the option to opt out. Opting out—formally known as submitting a "Request for Exclusion"—is the only way to preserve the right to independently sue Comcast over claims related to the breach. Requests to opt out must be postmarked or submitted online no later than June 1, 2026.Customers may also object to the settlement by filing a written objection with the court by June 1, 2026. Those who object may still file a claim for a settlement payment. The court is scheduled to hold a Final Approval Hearing on July 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET at the James A. Byrne U.S. Courthouse, 601 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Customers who take no action will remain part of the settlement class and will give up any rights to file a separate lawsuit against Comcast related to the breach. They will not receive a cash payment but will be able to enroll in the identity protection services once the settlement is finalized.
