A former television news anchor has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after stabbing her elderly mother in southeast Wichita, Kansas, authorities said.

Angelynn Elizabeth Mock, 47, was taken into custody after officers found her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds on Friday morning, the Wichita Police Department said Friday on Facebook.
As of Monday, Mock was being held on $1 million bond, according to Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office online records.

The Wichita Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NTD News.

Police responded to a “reported cutting” at a home in the 1500 block of East Crowley at 7:52 a.m. on Oct. 31, the police department said.

Officers found Mock outside the home and found Avers inside with the stab wounds. Sedgwick County EMS took her to St. Francis Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m.

Mock was taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Mock worked as a reporter and anchor for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. The profile describes her as a "veteran broadcast journalist with 12 years experience." Most recently, she worked as a data management consultant where she sold software.

In similar incidents, authorities have pursued charges in other fatal stabbing cases involving family members.

In Borrego Springs, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in November 2023 after allegedly fatally stabbing his 63-year-old mother in their home. A sheriff's deputy responding to a welfare check found the woman with apparent stab wounds.
In Irvine, a 37-year-old man suspected of stabbing his mother to death was fatally shot by police in August 2024. Officers responded to reports of a man attacking a woman and opened fire when they saw the suspect apparently stabbing the woman on the street.

The Wichita Police Department, which serves more than 400,000 residents across 163 square miles, emphasized its commitment to public safety in their press release. The agency's mission is "to promote safety, justice, and equality through innovative and transparent law enforcement practices."

The investigation into Mock's case remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Wichita Police Department.
