It’s the story of an unlikely friendship. ‘Billy’ the goat and ‘Samoa’ the rooster are best friends. The two live at a therapeutic riding facility and farm in Indian Land, South Carolina, called “His Barn.”
“I’ve had the billy goat since August of 1999. In 2013, he was attacked by some dogs. We rehabbed him, had a great vet, had a great chiropractor. And during this time, this little young rooster started hanging out with him. We thought it was just because the little rooster had nowhere else to go and the other ones were beating him up or whatever … but he’s just stayed with him night and day,” said Jillian Butela, owner of the farm.
Since they met, Samoa and Billy have been inseparable.
“He sleeps on him, he rides on him, he goes everywhere he goes. They’ve even been caught several times across the street out of the yard napping on the other side of the road together,” said Butela.
The farm owner think Samoa’s friendship helped Billy heal from his trauma.
“I think it was part of what helped him heal, because he had friendship the whole time,” she said. “Wherever the goat goes, the rooster goes with him! I think he likes him now. (reporter – You think there’s love?) I think there’s love, gotta be love.”
