One of the hallmarks of the Trump presidency is how tough he was on China. He surrounded himself with China hawks in key positions including his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and trade adviser Peter Nevarro.

In November, Pompeo called the Chinese Communist Party “brutish,” “antithetical to human dignity and freedom,” and a “Marxist-leninst monster.”

The Trump administration sanctioned CCP officials for human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong; it banned U.S. investments into Chinese companies with military ties; and it convinced allies to block Chinese telecom giant Huawei from 5G networks.

So the big question is how will the Biden administration handle its relationship with Beijing. And how much will Republican lawmakers press the issue. Well, we’re starting to find out. Some pressure is coming from a member of the House committees on Foreign Affairs and Armed Services.
