Ballots are already going out to voters across Los Angeles, and now former Vice President Kamala Harris announced that she is backing Mayor Karen Bass in the race for reelection.
Harris praised Bass’s leadership Monday, citing declines in homelessness and crime, and giving Bass her “full support.”
She said in a statement, “Mayor Karen Bass is the leader Los Angeles needs right now. She has done what so many said couldn’t be done.”
The endorsement comes as a recent UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll shows Bass leading with about 25 percent support. City Councilmember Nithya Raman follows with roughly 17 percent, and reality TV personality Spencer Pratt at around 14 percent.
About a quarter of voters remain undecided ahead of the June 2 election.
