House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Wednesday the Congress will investigate the ongoing attacks against Elon Musk and his electric vehicle company Tesla.
Musk's involvement in cutting government waste as the lead advisor of President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has prompted a series of vandalism and arson attacks on his company, Johnson says.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced that the DOGE committee sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel requesting a probe into the wave of “organized attacks” targeting Musk, Tesla, and DOGE.
In a show of support, Trump shopped for his own Tesla on the White House lawn and defended Musk’s work to move his political agenda forward and downsize the federal government.
Trump told the media that he would write a check for the electric vehicle, which retails for roughly $80,000. He also said he would leave the vehicle at the White House for his staff to drive.
Trump said he hopes his purchase will boost Tesla, which has recently seen a dip in sales and declining stock prices. On Monday, Tesla saw its stock price plummet 15 percent, the biggest one-day drop in five years.
But Tesla stock rebounded slightly Wednesday following Trump’s promotional event at the White House. Tesla stock was up more than six percent in early morning trading.
Trump has said he will label threats against Tesla as domestic terrorism.
“I’m going to stop them,” Trump said on March 11. “We catch anybody doing this because they’re harming a great American company.
“And let me tell you, you do it to Tesla, and you do it to any company, we’re going to catch you, and you’re going to go through hell,” he continued.
Trump said that some of the suspects behind the violence against Tesla properties have already been identified.
Trump's efforts to support Musk follows a March 11 attack on Tesla in Dedham, Massachusetts where three Teslas were vandalized.
Officials said the same Tesla location on Feb. 26 was targeted with “tagging” on the building door.
On Sunday night in Seattle, four Tesla Cybertrucks were damaged or destroyed in a fire at a lot in the SoDo neighborhood.
