Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling 568,576 Palisade SUVs in the United States after safety tests showed that the third-row side-curtain airbags may fail to adequately protect passengers in crashes.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the airbags don’t meet federal safety standards in rollover and other specific crash scenarios.

The recall is for 568,576 Hyundai Palisade SUVs from the 2020 through 2025 model years, manufactured between April 10, 2019, and June 16, 2025.

All affected vehicles were manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company for the U.S. market, and the agency estimates that every recalled Palisade, or 100 percent of the 568,576 vehicles, is impacted by the defect.

According to NHTSA, the vehicles don’t comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 226, “Ejection Mitigation.” Hyundai has also not identified any dashboard warnings or symptoms that would alert drivers to the issue.

Testing revealed that, in specific crash scenarios, including rollovers, the third-row curtain airbag permitted greater head movement for a simulated passenger than federal regulations allow.

This raised the risk of injury for passengers in the rear seats. According to NHTSA, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities linked to the defect.

“Hyundai is currently developing a remedy for this condition,” states the recall notice. “When available, this remedy will be offered at no cost to owners for all affected vehicles, regardless of whether the affected vehicles are still covered under Hyundai New Vehicle Limited Warranty.”

Hyundai will also reimburse owners for any out-of-pocket expenses related to the recall repair. Notification letters will be mailed to owners starting Mar. 23, with dealers receiving notice on the same date.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration assigned campaign number 26V034 to this recall, while Hyundai’s internal recall number is 292. Since Jan. 24, owners can check the recall status of their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) on the NHTSA recall portal.

The issue first emerged during a routine safety compliance test conducted by MGA on a 2025 Palisade. NHTSA found that the simulated head movement in the third-row seat exceeded the federal safety threshold of 100 millimeters.

As a result, it was determined that the airbag did not provide enough protection for third-row passengers in different crash scenarios.

The affected component is the module curtain airbag for both the left-hand and right-hand sides of the vehicle. These airbags were supplied by Autoliv, a leading Tier 1 original equipment manufacturer headquartered in South Korea.

In a separate recall, Hyundai is recalling another 41,651 vehicles in the United States due to an instrument panel display malfunction. This issue will be resolved with a software update, according to regulators.
