On Tuesday, an oil tanker heading to China was attacked by an Iranian drone at a port in Dubai.
The tanker, named Al Salmi, was carrying two million barrels of oil and was set on fire, but it was later brought under control, Dubai authorities said. There were no oil leaks or injuries to the crew.
The crude came from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia—not Iran—and was bound for the Chinese city of Qingdao.
This happened around the same time Beijing confirmed that three Chinese ships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier this month, a Chinese-owned cargo ship was hit by Iran, and last week, Iran turned back two Chinese container ships trying to transit the Strait of Hormuz, even though a top Chinese official tried to secure safe passage.
Meanwhile, Iran has rejected Beijing's attempt to play the mediator role in the war.
