Months after the loss of their child, the wife of Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia offered a raw glimpse into the profound grief she and her husband continue to navigate.
The emotional two-minute video, posted to social media on Friday, marked Kayla Vesia’s return to the platform after weeks of silence following the death of the couple’s daughter on Oct. 26, which they announced in a joint statement in November.
In her latest video, Kayla acknowledged the outpouring of support from baseball fans, the Dodgers organization, and the broader community.
"I am really grateful for the community of you guys, and just expressing your support and love towards us," Kayla said. "It really has brought us a lot of comfort during this."
The couple, who married in January 2024, announced their pregnancy in April 2025. Kayla revealed that despite extensive preparation for parenthood, nothing could have readied her for this outcome.
"I was prepared for everything," she said in the video, fighting back tears. "I was prepared for whatever was gonna happen but I wasn't prepared for not taking my baby home."
Kayla says she's contemplating how to move forward with her social media presence, which previously featured regular updates about the couple's life together. While she has drafts saved from moments when she considered sharing parts of their experience, she remains uncertain about what form that content will take.
"I do want to share my journey," she said. "I don't know how much I'm going to share. I don't know. I don't know the details of it, but I do know that I want to share, and if it can help somebody who's going through the same thing, feel like they're not alone."
Alex Vesia has pitched for the Dodgers for five seasons, establishing himself as a reliable left-handed option in the team's bullpen.
As Kayla closed her video, she offered well-wishes to her followers while acknowledging the uncertainty ahead. "I don't know what this year is gonna bring," she said. "I'll slowly be getting back on here, but I love you guys, and that's about it for right now."
The Vesias have asked for continued privacy as they grieve the loss of Sterling and find their path forward.
