A Michigan man says he believes his house was targeted with explosives over the weekend because of his political viewpoint.

The Dec. 5 incident left the St. Clair Shores homeowner and his girlfriend reeling when shortly after midnight, they heard two loud explosions.

“Smoke was filling the house,” the man, who wishes to stay anonymous for safety reasons, told Click on Detroit. “I went up, told her to get out of the house, grab the dog, get out of the house.”

He said the first explosion “kind of sounded like a transformer, I guess, from a power line,” and then moments later, another even larger explosion than the first went off and shook his entire house.

“We were really scared,” the man told the network. “I mean when you feel your house shake and explode and smoke, you don’t know what’s going on.”

After a survey of the damage, he found the window where the explosive likely went off to be completely blown out, with glass pieces shattered inside his living room. The man also found a large hole in the living room floor and cracks in the ceiling, he told FOX 2 Detroit.

The explosions were both captured on a surveillance camera belonging to a neighbor who lives down the street from the couple.

The man is now offering a reward of $10,000 for anyone with information on the culprit.

“I mean, it’s worth it to me to find out who’s trying to catch my house on fire and possibly kill me,” he told Click on Detroit.

In additional surveillance footage, which the homeowner shared with Click on Detroit, a potential suspect is seen running out of a pick-up truck and throwing an explosive toward the house.

St. Clair Shores detectives have also launched an investigation into what might have happened and are asking anyone with information to contact the department at 586-445-5300.

According to the homeowner, he was targeted over his political views, as he has signs supporting President Donald Trump in his front yard.

“Some people say because I’m a pretty avid Trump Supporter,” the man said. “I always have my sign up.”

St. Clair Shores is a suburban city in Macomb County about 15 miles from downtown Detroit.
