Multiple people were killed and one person was injured Wednesday morning in a shooting at a residence in Prospect Hill, North Carolina, according to the Caswell County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a call for service just before 8 a.m. at 352 Brooks Road. When they arrived, they found several victims who had been shot. One victim was taken to Duke University Hospital, while several others died at the scene.
Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden requested help from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said in a Facebook post. SBI crime scene investigators are now processing evidence and conducting interviews, the agency said. The sheriff's office said it is working to notify victims' next of kin.
Officials said there is no threat to the public and the incident remains confined to the residence. Responding agencies include the SBI, State Highway Patrol, Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County EMS and the Person County Sheriff's Office.
