A coming-of-age film about two cousins navigating identity and family will make its debut on the streaming platform GJW+ on Mother's Day, May 10.
Cici is Chinese-Canadian, Toronto-raised and self-assured. Jill has just arrived from China, reserved and gifted on the violin. What starts as an uneasy pairing gradually transforms into something deeper—a bond shaped by late-night conversations, shared boba runs and kitchen-table silences.
The English-language drama is included with all GJW+ subscriptions and available to rent for $7.99 for nonsubscribers.
Wang said the film was built around themes he believes young audiences are hungry for.
"This film is for everyone, and especially for young people," Wang said. "We know they respond to stories that are rich in plot, meaningful in content, and emotionally resonant—and those are exactly the qualities we built this film around. Our hope is that viewers not only find themselves in the story, but carry something away with them: empathy, tolerance, a renewed respect for the people who raised them."
"We chose 'Mina' as Gan Jing World's very first exclusive original film release in North America because its story is full of hope and positive values close to our hearts," Sherry Yin, CEO of Gan Jing World, said at the film's New York premiere.
GJW+ offers more than 10,000 movies, documentaries, and TV shows across multiple languages. Its parent platform, Gan Jing World, was founded with a mission it describes as "Technology for Humanity"—using non-addictive algorithms to prioritize what it calls meaningful content while protecting user privacy.
NTDTV Canada is a Chinese-language broadcaster serving North American audiences; PureRealm Pictures Inc. is an independent production company focused on family-oriented films reflecting the experiences of diverse communities.
