A child was safely rescued by authorities after being thrown from a vehicle during an accident in Georgia.
The video begins with two officers in a cruiser pulling up to a red light. In the intersection traffic, a driver in a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado is making a left turn when another truck T-bones it and both trucks slam into the police cruiser. A small passenger can be seen being ejected from the second truck and slamming onto the left side of the hood of the cruiser. One of the officers asks someone, "Are you okay?" while the second officer radios the emergency and calls for an ambulance.
The driver exits the cruiser and walks toward the second truck. The rear passenger window is completely shattered, and the child who was ejected is reaching up for the rear door, apparently trying to get back into the vehicle, and crying. A woman can be seen in the rear seat. The officer picks up the child and carries him to the front seat of the cruiser, and tells him to sit there.
The video then cuts back to the dashcam. The child can be heard telling the officers, "Thank you." One of the officers asks the boy, "Are you okay, buddy," to which he responds, "Yeah." A woman can be heard crying in the background.
"This video is nothing short of a miracle," the department captioned the video. "We understand that no one enjoys being pulled over, but this is a perfect example of why officers do what we do. Seat belts and child safety seats are incredibly important, especially for our youngest passengers. Even if you follow every traffic law and do everything right behind the wheel, there's always a chance another driver won't. In this crash, a child was ejected from the vehicle and, amazingly, walked away with only a few minor scratches.
"This video serves as a reminder that traffic enforcement is not just about writing citations," the department said on Wednesday, referring to Operation Summer Brake. "It's about preventing tragedies and keeping our community safe. Please take a few extra seconds to make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained before every trip. In this case, those few seconds could have made all the difference."
Details of the crash were not made available to the public. NTD News reached out to the Gwinnett County Police Department for comment but did not receive a response prior to publication.
