More than one million Halloween-themed candles have been recalled at a major U.S. retailer following reports of cracking glass, which led to minor consumer injuries.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the recall at Walmart on Feb. 23. It applies to over 1.2 million autumnal and Halloween-themed scented Mainstays Three-Wicked Candles.
The candles in question were scented “Jack-O-Lantern,” “Mystic Fog,” “Warm Apple Pie,” “Warm Fall Leaves,” “Fall Farm House,” “Pumpkin Spice,” and “Magic Potion.”
According to about a dozen reports received by the commission, the candle wicks can burn too close to the side of the container, causing the glass to break, posing fire and laceration hazards.
Reports included one of a minor cut from the glass breaking and multiple others of damage to nearby items. One report of a fire was also issued, according to the CPSC.
Walmart sold the 14-ounce candles throughout branches across the country and online between September and November last year.
Customers were advised by the CPSC to not use the affected candles and to contact the product manufacturer “Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle” for a full refund.
