Painted Tree Boutiques, a national chain known for its boutique retail spaces, abruptly closed all its locations, ending operations at more than 60 stores and leaving vendors scrambling to retrieve merchandise. The sudden closure was announced on April 14.

The company’s website states, “Painted Tree Closed Effective April 14, 2026,” marking the official shutdown date.

The boutique’s business model relied on leasing booth space to vendors and collecting rent and commissions on sales, often featuring handmade goods, home decor, and boutique clothing.

Vendors were notified of the shutdown in a letter that instructed them to retrieve their inventory as soon as possible. Videos posted on social media show vendors rushing to the store in trucks and U-Hauls to retrieve their inventory.

The company stated, “It is with deep regret that we write to inform you that Painted Tree Boutiques has made the very difficult decision to cease all business operations today. Painted Tree will not be conducting any further retail sales at any location."

In an apology to venors, the company said, “We understand the impact this has on you and your business, and we are truly sorry,” adding, “this is not the outcome any of us hoped for.”

The notice emphasized, “Access to stores is subject to landlord decisions,” indicating that landlords could lock locations without advance warning.

The letter also stated that vendors had until April 24 to remove merchandise, though it contained inconsistencies about the actual deadline, listing April 24 as both a Friday and a Sunday.

According to Raleigh Downtown, citing a corporate email from the boutique, “vendors have until Friday, April 24, to retrieve their inventory.”

“However, we encourage vendors not to wait. Building landlords can lock the doors at any time due to PTB bankruptcy. If that happens, you won’t be able to access your inventory,” the Raleigh, North Carolina, guide states.

Painted Tree locations were concentrated in major metro areas across multiple states, including Texas, with stores in Frisco, Grapevine, Highland Village, Lewisville, Mansfield and North Richland Hills, as well as the Austin, San Antonio, Tyler and Houston areas, along with locations in states such as Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia, according to the company’s website.
Painted Tree was founded in 2015 in Bryant, Arkansas, and described itself on its website as “an Etsy marketplace and Pinterest catalog come to life,” offering boutique retail space for independent sellers.

The company said it aimed to empower entrepreneurs by providing storefront access without requiring them to operate standalone businesses. The company grew from a single vintage market into a national chain with more than 60 locations across nearly two dozen states.

NTD has reached out to Painted Tree Boutique for comment, but has not received a response at the time of publication.
