The Powerball jackpot has risen to an estimated $856 million, making it the eighth-largest prize in the game’s history after another drawing ended without a grand-prize winner.
The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10:59 p.m. ET. A winner could choose the advertised annuity, paid through 30 graduated payments over 29 years, or take an estimated $372 million lump sum before taxes.
The new total follows a smaller milestone announced by Powerball on Aug. 4, when the organization said the $786 million prize available for Wednesday’s drawing ranked ninth on its all-time list.
Wednesday’s jackpot carried an estimated cash value of $341.6 million. No ticket won the grand prize, but a ticket sold in Ohio matched all five white balls to win $1 million, according to Powerball.
The winning numbers were 14, 20, 59, 60 and 61, with a red Powerball of 25. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.
The largest Powerball jackpot on record was a $2.04 billion prize won by a single California ticket in November 2022. The second-largest was the $1.817 billion Arkansas jackpot won in December 2025. Two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas divided the third-largest prize, worth $1.787 billion, in September 2025.
The jackpot was last claimed May 2, when tickets sold in Florida and Texas split a $20 million prize. No ticket has matched all five white balls and the red Powerball in the drawings since then.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. The game is sold in 45 states, Washington, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom, which began offering tickets in July, according to Powerball.
Players may add the Power Play option for $1, which can multiply most non-jackpot prizes. The Match 5 award is generally fixed at $1 million, although a qualifying ticket with Power Play can increase that prize to $2 million. California’s non-jackpot prizes are calculated differently because they are based on ticket sales and the number of winners.
Powerball reports that the overall odds of winning any prize are about 1 in 24.9. Jackpot winners may select either the annuity or cash option, and both advertised amounts are calculated before federal and any applicable state taxes.
Players select five white-ball numbers from 1 through 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 through 26. They may choose their own numbers or have a lottery terminal generate them. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 292.2 million, according to data from the website.
