A nationwide recall of Frigidaire-brand minifridges has expanded to nearly 1 million appliances after additional units were found to pose serious fire risks.

Roughly 330,000 of the red retro minifridges were recalled by Curtis International after the electronic and appliances manufacturer received multiple reports of the products catching fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday.

"The minifridges’ internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards," the notice reads.

The recent recall extends to Model EFMIS121 with serial numbers between A2001 to A2310, which were sold exclusively at Target locations nationwide and online from January 2020 to October 2023.

Curtis International previously recalled more than 630,000 of the Frigidaire minifridges in July 2024 due to similar risks.

The CPSC reported that the company had received more than two dozen reports of the appliances "smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire," resulting in property damages that totaled upwards of $700,000. Two consumers also reported injuries related to smoke inhalation.

NTD reached out to Curtis International and Frigidaire for additional information but a response was not received by publication time.

The model numbers included in the first batch of affected units were EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175 with serial numbers ranging between A2001 to A2308, A2001 to A2312, A2001 to A2308, and A2001 to A2310, respectively.

The mini refrigerators were sold in 6- and 9-can sizes in a variety of colors, including black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver. They were distributed at Walmart and other stores across the country, as well as online at Walmart.com and Amazon.com, from January 2020 through December 2023.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled minifridges and follow the instructions to register for a refund at www.recallrtr.com/minifridge," the CPSC stated in both recall notices.

"Consumers should unplug and cut the power cord and write 'Recall' using a permanent marker on the front door of the unit. Consumers should dispose of the recalled minifridges in accordance with local and state regulations."

In June 2025, AstroAI recalled about 249,100 minifridges for posing a fire and burn hazard. The CPSC said it had received at least 70 reports of the appliances smoking, burning, melting, or catching fire, resulting in two fires.
Months later, in September, Epoca International pulled more than 100,000 Paris Hilton Mini Beauty Fridges sold at Walmart, Ross, and various online sites following several reports that the products overheated and caught fire.

Consumers were urged to stop using both products and follow the manufacturer's instructions for seeking a refund or replacement.
