In the Japanese cities of Shibuya and Hachioji, Shen Yun Performing Arts dazzled audiences with classical Chinese dance, costumes, and scenes from ancient China. Chinese members of the audience expressed admiration for the performers’ technical prowess, and said that Shen Yun’s performance made them proud of China’s 5,000-year-old history.

“I think [Shen Yun] perfectly revived China’s 5,000 year history. It was very perfect. It’s hard to see such a performance so close to tradition in China today. [Shen Yun] is very rare. Very rare,” said Mr. Xiao, a Chinese resident.

“The choreography was very beautiful, and the performers’ costumes were especially vibrant. It was like something out of a painting. What impressed me the most was how well the background screen coordinated with the dancers’ movements. It felt like the whole performance constantly traveled between the Divine realm and the real world,” said Li, a Chinese student.

“I’m very moved. Right now, all I feel is deeply moved. It feels like my whole soul has been cleansed. The dancers’ movements were beautiful, and the music was very touching. What especially moved me was the deeper meaning behind the performance. That truly touched my heart,” said Mr. Liu, an IT engineer.

“The level of skill of every musician in the orchestra was very high. I couldn’t hear a single flaw from the beginning until the end. It was very harmonious. It sounded like it came straight out of a recording studio,” said Mr. Mi, a Chinese resident.

Yifan Qian, a company president, said: “I was so amazed by the interaction between the performers and the backdrop animation. The transition between the performers and the animation was completely seamless [and] smooth. As soon as a performer reached the backdrop and jumped in, the background connected instantly. There wasn’t even a one-second delay.”

“Every performer had exceptional foundational skills, regardless of whether they were a lead dancer or a regular performer. Each one of them could pull out some very impressive moves, be it jumps or flips. When you see that, you can feel that every performer is an artist who works meticulously to perfect their craft. Every performance is very pure and deeply engaging. It’s a true reflection of the performers’ spirit,” said Mrs. Mi, a Chinese resident.

Through classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun demonstrates genuine traditional Chinese culture. It is banned by the Chinese Communist Party from performing in China because of the awareness they raise about religious persecution happening to this day. Audience members said they were touched by the traditional values that Shen Yun presented, and hoped that more and more people could see the show.

“I think [the performers] are very brave. They use dance to tell the whole world about what’s happening in China,” said Li. “The meaning behind the three words ‘truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance’ aligns with China’s traditional ancient civilization. Looking at it from a global perspective, this kind of value is also very good.”

Mr. Liu said: “I think having faith is a very important way to uphold human morality. I think that as humans, we need to return to having faith.”

“I think it would be great if kids could watch this from an early age. It can help parents to guide their children on the right path. It can help set a good example for kids,” said Mr. Xiao.

“Chinese culture actually has many really refined and valuable aspects. But as we all know, under China’s current political system, a lot of traditional and ancient culture has been completely wiped out,” said Dai Wang, the vice president of the Federation for a Democratic China. “I hope people from countries from all over the world can understand and spread China’s culture. In this respect, Shen Yun is doing amazing, it’s wonderful.”

“I think that good things should be shared by everyone around the world. So I really hope [Shen Yun] can perform in mainland China as soon as possible, all across the country,” said Mr. Liu.

Shen Yun Performing Arts has now completed another successful global tour. It will return to the stage for the 2026 season with an all-new program.
