VANCOUVER, Canada—Shen Yun Performing Arts completed a successful run at the Vancouver Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, Canada, on April 12. Among the audience members were Chinese immigrants, who were touched to see genuine Chinese culture being shared with international audiences.

Longbin Yan, a recent Chinese immigrant, said, “I’m very excited to be here today in person. The thunderous applause at the end warmed my heart, and I almost wanted to cry. It seems like there were a lot of Western audience members. They really appreciate the performance. I think it's wonderful that [Shen Yun] spreads traditional Chinese culture.”

“Shen Yun’s performance is brilliant, truly magnificent,” Qun He, a Chinese audience member, said. “It not only presents traditional classical Chinese dance, but also dances from various ethnic groups, traditional musical instruments, and even conveys traditional Chinese values through story dances. Overall, it’s an audiovisual feast! I really believe it serves as a bridge for cultural exchange between East and West.”

Shen Yun combines classical Chinese dance and a live orchestra to tell ancient Chinese myths and legends. The company's mission is to show “China before communism” and revive traditional Chinese values of kindness and spirituality. Shen Yun also depicts the modern-day persecution of practitioners of the spiritual practice Falun Dafa in China. Audiences were moved by the stories they saw unfold onstage.

Mr. Yan said, “The piece that left the deepest impression on me was the one about the persecution [of Falun Gong], of a person being persecuted and losing their eyesight. Like the host said, things like this are still happening in mainland China. It’s hard to imagine that in the 21st century, things like this still exist, and there are even more serious cases, where people lose their lives—even live organ harvesting.”

Jury, another Chinese audience member, said, “I personally support Falun Gong. I’ve followed its story, and what it has gone through, as well as the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance that it promotes. I support and respect that. The persecution it faces in China, including the suppression of belief, is very unfortunate. If it were allowed to develop positively in China, it would improve people’s moral standards. But now, under the Chinese Communist Party, the moral level of society has declined sharply.”

“For thousands of years, Chinese people have had their own beliefs. I think presenting this on stage is very appropriate and well done. The persecution of Falun Gong in China shows that freedom of belief is being violated. Chinese people do not actually enjoy basic human rights. We feel very angry about this, and we should work toward addressing it. We should unite and make an effort,” Ms. He said.

“This [performance] is really very impressive. We’ve never seen anything like this before, this is my first time, and I truly think it’s extremely wonderful. I hope that through more channels, more Chinese people can come to know Shen Yun and learn more about the truth about Falun Gong, and not be misled by false propaganda,” Jay, a Chinese audience member, said.

Shen Yun continues its 2026 world tour, with stops in cities including Detroit, Michigan, and Newark, New Jersey.
