On April 25, Shen Yun Performing Arts dazzled audiences at the Detroit Opera House in Detroit, Michigan. Audience members were impressed by the artistry and beauty of the performance.

“I love the synchronicity, the choreography. Choreography was amazing, and the dancers, the colors, but to bring 5,000 years of culture into this performance was so moving. And I love the story behind it, and I loved how it was portrayed in dance and color and art and singing, just wonderful,” said John Bukowicz, the president and CEO of a consulting firm.

Rob McCallum, the director of Environmental Health and Safety, said, “It was beautiful. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. It was beautiful.”

Jim Duffy, a retired project manager with an automotive firm, said, “One thing that really strikes me is just the really bright colors, the energy. It’s really very entertaining.”

William Jahoda, a chief engineer at a facility management company, said, “The way they mixed technology with the live performance on the stage. It was very neat, very cool.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of the traditional culture of China before communism. It resonated with many of the audience members.

Mr. Bukowicz said, “It represents history, and it represents a culture in the world that is standing up for the history. And I always find that meaningful. When people are living life from the heart, and they’re going through some incredible challenges, and the fact that they can preserve who they are, their values, and then that they can bring this to the stage in the form of art, I think it’s just absolutely wonderful.”

Mr. McCallum said, “There were many stories. ... It identified what everybody was going through in China and how it’s changed over the years.”

Each performance also features singers in the bel canto style, who highlight themes of spirituality and faith in their lyrics, resonating with audiences.

“The lyrics may give the singing meaning,” said Mr. Duffy. “They send a pretty clear message that we need to be more traditional.”

“It brings hope to get the message out. Get the message out and bring hope to people,” said Mr. Jahoda.

Scott Nill, a business owner, said, “Thank you so much for your hard work and the sacrifices you’ve made. ... We know how hard it was and the training to stick with it. It’s remarkable what you’ve done, and we’re grateful.”

Mr. Bukowicz said, “Absolutely outstanding. Your commitment, your devotion. It is so obvious. I know that this is a lifetime of commitment in terms of what you do to prepare, and I just want you to know that ... it’s so much appreciated.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Newark, New Jersey, from April 29 through May 3.
