NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—Shen Yun Performing Arts, the world’s leading classical Chinese dance company, offered audiences at the State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick a glimpse into 5,000 years of Chinese civilization on April 24. Theatergoers were moved by the depth and values of traditional Chinese culture, and spoke highly of the performers’ exceptional talent.

Timothy Massey, an author and motivational speaker, said, “The world needs to see this because it wasn't just a performance—it was a connection with something beyond the traditional feeling of flesh, but it was more of a spiritual connection I believe.”

Peter Wilkins, an actor, said, “It's awesome. I can't think of the words to describe it. Wow would be the words. Wow.”

“I really enjoyed the show. I've never seen anything of this caliber of dancing,” Shaw Milián, a business owner, said. “The dancers were absolutely phenomenal. I don't know how you guys find people that good at dancing.”

Igna Wismer, a psychologist, said, “I love the choreography, the costumes. It just was very well executed. And the music was amazing. The orchestra in particular I thought was great.”

Since taking power in 1949, the ruling Chinese regime has disconnected today’s Chinese people from their traditional culture, and persecuted those with faith. Shen Yun is unable to perform in China because it tells of the human rights abuses happening in China today.

Mr. Massey said, “I know that one day it will be accepted because you can't hold back the glory. You can't hold back this type of atmosphere, this type of power and energy. Darkness is expelled when light comes into play. So it will be shown in China, it has to be. It's just a matter of time.”

Mr. Wilkins said, “To be oppressed like that is not a good thing, but at least they're able to do it here. And I think the people in America really appreciate it.”

Shen Yun is simultaneously touring the world with eight different companies. Each season, it presents a brand-new program featuring original dance, music, costumes, and backdrops.

Ms. Wismer said, “This beauty, creativity, and unlimited human potential, and just the Chinese culture, above all; it's beautiful and it's a really powerful representation.”

“Thank you for never giving up, thank you for having a vision and pursuing it until it became a reality. Because without you doing that, you wouldn't have blessed us the way that you have. So thank you so much and continue and much success to you,” Mr. Massey said.

“I'm going to see this again and again, as well as tell my friends and family they have to see this.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Newark, New Jersey, from April 29–May 3; Chicago, Illinois, from May 2–3; and Stamford, Connecticut, from May 7–10.
