Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun Performing Arts brought to life the beauty of ancient China—for audiences in Claremont, California, on March 29—at the Bridges Auditorium, Pomona College. Audience members were in awe of the company’s artistry.

Yasmin Villanueva, a business owner, said, “It’s amazing, it’s beautiful. Everything you want to see in a show. All the colorful, so vibrant, the story telling, it’s a beautiful experience.”

“I did feel like I was walking in history. It was moving. It was quick. The cinematography was beautiful, the costumes gorgeous, and it moved so quickly, it was just absolutely stunning. The makeup and costumes were very well done,” said Julia Carrillo, a business owner.

John Montgomery, a design studio owner said, “Those sleeves that they would suck back in and push back out again, that would just fly up in the air, they were absolutely beautiful. The way they used the air to kind of get in sync with one another, is absolutely gorgeous.”

“Especially with the live music, that was another thing we really enjoyed. We weren’t expecting a live orchestra, so the music was really enjoyable,” said David Hernandez, a company executive vice president.

Shen Yun aims to revive the spirit of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism—a heritage believed by ancient Chinese people to be a gift from the Divine. The efforts of the performers were highly appreciated—and theatergoers took note of a deeper message.

Larry Daniels, a former attorney said, “I thought it was a message about kindness and independence and courage.”

“I have been impressed by the message that they’re sending, overall, about religious freedom. I didn’t know that was part of the show, but now that I’ve seen it, I’m very impressed that there is a message,” Ms. Villanueva added.

Mario Gutierrez, a business owner said, “It’s amazing. I hope a lot of people can have this opportunity to see them perform. It’s really great, they do a great job.”

Shen Yun will be performing at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts in Northridge, California, on April 8 and 9.
