Shen Yun Performing Arts took center stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, bringing thousands of years of Chinese history to life. Dedicated to reviving a culture nearly lost, the New York-based company uses classical Chinese dance and music to tell the stories of ancient China. Audience members were captivated by the performance, many calling it a powerful display of artistry, tradition, and spiritual depth.

“It was so beautifully captured. It was so beautifully summarized, and it was mesmerizing,” said Khushboo Siddhiwala, a model and actress. “It was beautifully portrayed and synchronized so well. The artist’s body language was amazing. I can see there was so much of backstage work done, rehearsals, and everybody was to the point; it was amazing. Excellent.”

“The show is one of the premier 3D entertainment experiences in the world. I think I didn’t even know that that was possible. The timing was perfect because if you don’t get the timing right, it won’t work. But the dancers are on cue. And the graphics are beautiful,” said Preity Üpala, an actress and entrepreneur. “I really appreciate expression, gestures, elaborate dance moves, and even martial arts. I like the combination of it, because in Hollywood, you don’t always get that.”

Ms. Üpala said she appreciates the message she felt from the performance: “There was a bit, it said, internal tranquility, external strength. And that is such an important message today, especially with what’s going on in the world. Because it’s all about the inner, it is all about what’s in here. And if all of us tap in, then we’ll be a different person. And if everybody in the world was like that, it’d be a more beautiful world. So that touched me. I thought, ‘I like that, and how can I use that in my life?’”

She added: “The humanity, the spirituality, civility, love, going deeper within and connecting with the world outside, and all of those good things. I think that we forget, and when we come to a show like this, it reminds us.”

“The show was amazing. I love the things [that] were covered, about humanity, God, the way it was portrayed,” Ms. Siddhiwala said. “I think everybody should watch this show at least once. To understand the power of art, to understand the power of music, to understand the power of humanity, and not to lose faith with our beliefs, with God.”

“Know that you are touching people at large, and people are being affected. It’s not just that they’re coming to have a beautiful experience. They’re actually leaving feeling fulfilled, feeling positive, feeling full of hope. There are a lot of messages of hope out there,” Ms. Üpala said.

Shen Yun will be performing in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 10 and 11.
