Shen Yun Performing Arts captivated audiences in Berlin, Germany, on March 27, as theatergoers were mesmerized by a glimpse into the rich traditions of ancient Chinese culture.

“Powerful, visually stunning, colorful, great story, beautiful singing, and good orchestra. I have to say that everything was just perfect,” said Bernd Zblewski, a business owner.

Michael Büttner, a vocal music professor, said that “the orchestra was very good, the conductor had it well under control.”

“This performance was perfect, very beautiful,” he said, noting his appreciation for the fusion of traditional Western instruments with Chinese instruments.

Audience members were also impressed by Shen Yun’s patented state-of-the-art animated backdrop, in combination with the classical Chinese dance and music.

Tonći Vanjak, an entrepreneur, said that the “artistic performance of everyone is really impressive, and the combination of the scenes and the filming in the background and the dance of these fantastic world-class dancers is very impressive.”

“I found it very colorful and very impressive because of the colors, because of the dance acrobatics, and also with the integration of the background,” said Dirk Küster, a former program director.

Since the communist party took power in China in 1949, the regime has sought to break Chinese society’s belief in the divine. Now, Shen Yun travels around the world with the mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values. Theatergoers expressed their appreciation for Shen Yun’s efforts.

“You can see that the preservation or revival of important cultural treasures, such as traditional Chinese culture, which are often lost in the modern world—unfortunately due to political reasons—is definitely worth pursuing. I think that's a good thing, and I'm glad that there are situations like this performance where such things are being addressed,” said Sabine Küster-Reeck, a travel journalist.

“I think it's important overall, because traditions are increasingly being lost, even in Europe, even in the West. And I think it's important for all countries, especially those where communist regimes are unfortunately in power,” said Anton Friesen, a former parliament member.

Kathleen Glenz, a senior regional institute director, said “I consider these values very important and I think that, in this day and age, we should also return to good values.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Amnéville, France, from April 9–13.
