Singer Aaron Carter defended the Second Amendment by explaining why he chose to own guns, according to an Instagram video.

The Instagram video footage featured an assortment of guns and Carter pans through a few and identifies them. He shared on the same post that he had gotten his gun license.

“I finally got my gun license! I fully support the constitution and my right to bear arms,” the post read. “My father was a military policeman for 21 years and I’m inheriting over 500 curio relic firearms from 3 generations on my father’s side.”

According to Fox News, it was revealed that he went through an extensive legal process to procure a license to own guns. TMZ reported back in 2017 that Carter tried to purchase a gun at a shop but was denied after he was flagged based on his background check. According to the shop manager, there was no indication as to why the alarm went off.

Carter told TMZ that it was absolutely necessary to own guns to protect his family.

Carter said that he owed his understanding of firearms to his father, who was a military policeman, as explained by Carter in his Instagram post. He also thanked his father for using those firearms to protect his family.

“My father had many guns and was ready to protect… I mean, he protected our family one time when we were on a boat and we were going to get robbed by people when we were staying on an island, and he saved our lives on an island,” Carter told TMZ.

Carter was also with his mother at the time, and when asked whether it was right for Carter to own guns, she gave her own take on it, saying that the reason he owned guns was to protect himself from crazy fans.

Fox News reported back in February that Carter had been allegedly stalked by an obsessive fan. According to a tweet Carter wrote on Feb. 17, he addressed the stalking and said that he was scared for his life.

“You made a big mistake stalking me and keying my car,” he wrote on Twitter back in February. “Police are now getting involved my stalker has taken it too far. And she’s gonna be sued by me. I will reveal her identity too I’m scared for my life.”

According to Fox News, the fan had made her way into his concerts, and that made him fearful.

The news outlet reported that Carter was well enough to own a gun—despite the mental issues he had in the past, he told TMZ that it was safe for him to own one. When asked about his mental stability, he said that he was fine.
