Singer in One of Most Popular Songs of Past 20 Years Dies—Cause Revealed

Big T, known for singing the hook to the 1999 Lil Troy smash hit “Wanna Be a Baller,” died at the age of 52.

Big T, whose name was Terence Prejean, died Monday, May 7, in a hospital in Houston, Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences spokeswoman Tricia Bentley confirmed, Billboard.com reported.

Longtime friend Tony Williams, known as Tiger T, said that he may have had a heart attack. Rapper Mike D from The Screwed Up Click said that Big T died of a heart attack, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Big T was described as the “Million Dollar Hook Man” and was featured on releases by other musicians. He also released solo albums, including “Million Dollar Hooks” and “Power Move.”

“My brother has been in the (music) business since he was 5 years old,” Ann Prejean, his sister, was quoted by The Associated Press as saying.

Other Texas rappers Paul Wall, Lil Flip, and Slim Thug went on social media to pay respects to Big T after his death.

“MAN BIG T ALWAYS CAME THRU 4 ME AND SUNG HOOKS 4 ME!! MAN WE WAS ABOUT TO START ON OUR #LILFLIPANDBIGT ALBUM MAN IM GO MISS U BRO,” Lil Flip wrote on Instagram.

His sister said that he leaves behind his wife and two sons, AP reported.
